A new course to learn the steps to start your own business will be held at the George Henry White Center. The Ice House Entrepreneurial Mindset Training uses real-world examples to show you how people just like you have become successful business owners.
Taught by Brad Johnson, of Bladen Community College's Small Business Center, we will also hear from successful business owner Girard Newkirk of Genesis Block, who is a speaker, writer, Google for Startups Black Founders Exchange Alumnus, and other successful business owners.
"Today's marketplace isn't the same as 10 or 20 years ago," said Vince Spaulding, project leader. "People are making money growing specialty vegetables directly for restaurants, or turning unused land into a pumpkin patch or a berry farm. People are making money in doing what they love--their craft, their hobby, their talent."
"Even if you have an existing business, or farm, or trade, this course can help you develop new and exciting profitable ventures based on your interests and the things you already have," explains Carol Caldwell, Programming Director. "For those just starting out, this can show a path to a prosperous career. "It doesn't matter if you're young or old, if you're male or female, if you have years of experience or are just starting out, this course will help you understand how to build a business that works for you."
The course will allow participants to study in person, or through streaming (virtual) the classes. "Hybrid classes allow any serious learner to enroll."
"Thanks to the Conservation Fund's Creating New Economies Fund grant, and the NC IDEA foundation, we are able to offer this training for free, even including the cost of books and materials," explained Milton Campbell, President of BESDF. "We are excited to find those who will take full advantage of this training to own and run a successful business."
