The George Henry White Memorial Health and Education center has been warmly welcomed to the Columbus County Chamber of Commerce, by its president Jennifer Holcomb. It is also being invited to the Bladen County Chamber of Commerce, which sent a representative, Ms. Terri Dinnison, to tour the facility and learn about the activities and services.
"We are honored to become members of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, to join the ranks of active and responsible organizations in the Columbus County area," wrote project leader Vince Spaulding in a letter of acceptance to the invitation to join.
Local superintendent, Ocie Jones, approached both Chambers and has led the effort to involve the GHW center in the local business and nonprofit community. "With the twice-weekly computer classes, and the upcoming networking classes that will start in the Spring, we are developing workforce skills in the local population," Ocie explains. "Also, we are inviting skilled tradesmen and companies to partner with us to enable people to gain training and certifications. We are also beginning drug intervention programs and health and fitness education, to ensure that whatever someone's circumstances, they can become stronger, and more able to live their best life."
